The Story
Golden Boy Coffee is linked directly to my experience as an elementary music teacher. It all started as an idea when I started serving cups of coffee to teachers at my elementary school who didn’t want a Keurig cup. They kept coming back day after day, and I fell in love with service and sharing specialty beans with others. I wanted to formalize how I share coffee with others, and decided to start Golden Boy Coffee.
I dreamed of starting something that would create a community with coffee as the medium. I loved going to our community & school events, and I have always dreamed of creating a space that provides a community of care to our youth.
GIVE BACK TO THE YOUTH ARTS PROGRAMS
I dream of helping to create opportunities for students to pursue the arts, music education, and literacy. I want to help fund programs and scholarships for students from struggling families so they can rent their instruments for free, receive lessons and instruction, and access books and materials they may not otherwise be exposed to.
The vision for Golden Boy is to support children in their pursuit of the arts & literacy by connecting with local youth arts organizations, school districts, and youth outreach programs.
Why Golden Boy?
Golden Boy is a way we tease our friends in both languages I speak, English and Armenian. In Armenian, when someone was being extra polite and considerate, we'd call them "ոսկե տղա," which means "golden boy". I found it to be a parallel for both worlds I inhabit, and it provides me an opportunity to share my Armenian heritage with an audience who may not know much about our culture, history, and food. As a diasporan, my culture has become central to my life, and I want to share some unique flavors from Armenia & Iran, where my family is from. My identity as an Armenian is rooted in resistance, resilience, and a constant ongoing struggle for justice, which is why I also believe in our slogan: "born to endure."
